About Our Team
RideSD is a team of passionate change-makers dedicated to solving problems in San Diego.
We bring diverse skills and experiences to the table and we welcome people who want to make a difference alongside us.
Our Fellowships are stipended, hands-on, and prepare fellows for a career in government policy, communications, and advocacy.
Fellowships are self-led with a minimum commitment of 3 months.
The recommended workload is designed to be less than 10 hours a week.

Policy Fellowship

Learn the Transportation Landscape
What makes the board rooms of our transportation agencies tick? What are the issues and politics that drive local governments?
Policy Fellows may observe government hearings, prepare briefs, and participate in weekly discussions to understand local transportation politics.

Craft Realistic Policy Proposals
Let’s strive to solve the failures that are holding us back with realistic solutions that policy makers can implement today.
Policy Fellows may craft well-researched proposals and prepare materials to pitch stakeholders & policy makers.

Meet with Policy Makers
Whether it’s a parking management solution for the City or needed transparency reforms for the State, RideSD will find the relevant policy maker for the fellow’s policy proposal, schedule visits, and work with fellows to tailor their pitches.
Policy Fellows may get experience educating policy makers on transportation policy and build relationships with staffers.

Communications Fellows may observe government hearings, track issues, and participate in weekly discussions to determine what story needs to be told.

Why should the public care about infrastructure? What facts would make them better informed?
Communications Fellows may write articles that meaningfully connect regular people to important developments and equip them with the facts to be informed citizens.

Newspapers and TV stations don’t reach most people. How do we keep the public informed?
Communications Fellows may create content to reach sizeable audiences—whether it’s short-form video, podcasts, pamphlets, or something else entirely.

What makes the board rooms of our transportation agencies tick? Who are the key players behind campaigns? What facts need to be said to decision makers?
Advocacy Fellows may attend government hearings, meet with staffers, and participate in weekly meetings to discuss power dynamics.

Speak Up for Progress
What needs to be said at government hearings? What facts should local media outlets be aware of?
Communications Fellows deliver comments at public hearings, draft position letters, crate press releases, or participate in interviews with media outlets.

Build Coalitions
Which stakeholders and organizations want to solve problems? How do we get them on board?
Advocacy Fellows may engage with stakeholders, build relationships, and organize people to get behind solutions.
