On Friday July 19th, MTS and NCTD made it possible to pay your transit fare via tap to pay as part of their payments system PRONTO. Here is what you need to know.
How does Tap to Pay Work?
Tap to pay or contactless payments is supported by all major financial institutions and is enabled the majority of bank cards (credit & debit). Check your card for the following logo to make sure it works:
Can I use my Phone to pay for Transit?
Yes, you can use your phone if it’s Apple/Android Samsung Pay enabled, which most smartphones are.
Do Transfers Work With Contactless?
Yes, if you tap your card multiple times in the two hour transfer window you won’t be charged again.
Can I still use my regular PRONTO Card?
Yes, existing payment options are not affected by contactless payment.
